Looking Down the Road...

This road I'm on is every bit as long and difficult as I expected.

The ache to get back to the freedom I knew on the road... until being chained down this past year... is strong.

It's a real job cutting loose the bindings my bad choices wrapped around me... but that day is far closer.

I'm waiting now on the last few bits, ordered just a day or two ago, to make my camp long term sustainable.

Some drifters choose to go on just their bikes, and it's a fine way. Very fine. I much treasure long, far rides... just me, the road, and my bike.

Just, for me, for ling term sustainability, there is what I feel, again, for me, a better way.

Having to rely on the generosity of others has left me twisting all to often... and I'll let that lay right there.

Also, For me, I don't like feeling pushed by the weather. When you live on a bike it can seem that way.

A long time ago I was taught and learned to embrace the weather. Fight it and you will lose. The weather will eat you.

You have to embrace the weather, not fight it. So... to live with it I equip to deal with what comes. For long term sustainable life on the road I've chosen to have a hard side "hooch".

With that, the wind, rain...even snow and bears don't push me. I can just hunker down and drink my coffee, warm, dry and secure.

In the past I had larger rigs. Too big. Too heavy. To complicated. Downsizing to this little 72 square foot hooch lightens the burden of that little bit of "security" to insignificant "weight" on body and soul. 

In fact I am left with a pretty awesome camp... though I may be biased!

I'm hoping to be "back in the wind" around April Fools day... isn't THAT appropriate!

Made a lot of progresd since the last post. The pic is the couch/bunk folded out for my bed, and the shelf setup that holds my "tour pack" closet. ALL my clothes are in that...and the jacket duffle and helmet rack just above... minimalism!

***edit*** had to hop through new hoops for google and microsoft to get the post to load and then yet more... to get a pic up... so I added a couple others as well... their screwing around is making computer use a massive hassle rather than a benefit...

I'm actually living in the nearly finished trailer now. Figured I better work the unnoticed kinks out of the outfit while I still have a bit of a safety net here.

Once I am I'll do up a short video tour of the bikers hooch camp I am finishing up right now.

Pushing hard with an empty wallet to get loose! 😊

Changes to the Site...They are a Coming!

I've just started a complete rebuild of the entire website, though its final completion is gonna take some little while!

My ISP, Sitesell, has imposed on all of us web fellas and fellerettes, that are customers of SBI anyway,  a new and improved blockbuilding program that we build our sites with. The good news is; While the old system was a one of a kind jewel... the NEW AND IMPROVED SBI version is heads and shoulders better! ... and near as I can tell, STILL, one of a kind.

For those of us who are NOT computer geeks and don't have HTML as a second language... The BB2 system that SBI has been rolling out for the past several months is the "simple" way (if that exists) to do something that is for sure and for certain, NOT simple! ;)

The only downside is... for lazy biker cowboys like me... it means a lot more work to keep things improving around here! ;) ahhh... but then, anybody who tells you; It's gonna be a quick and easy job to make a lot of money on the net is NOT bein' truthful. It's a piece of work. Do it right; Work hard with discipline; and you've got a dang fine opportunity to break out into a new sort of life.

It's sure worked for me.

But, go in with the idea of a get rich quick situation where you drop $29 bucks and start makin' money tomorrow afternoon... and you're cookin' a meal of frustration and disappointment. It ain't gonna happen.

Anyhoo... my home page of Motorcycle Touring the Good Life has been the first page on this site to be converted from the old system. I built a couple of new small pages earlier, just to get my feet wet... but converting old pages is a more complicated enterprise. That'll take me a while to complete!

I think the Home page looks a lot cleaner and better than it did... So, the work to upgrade the entire site should end up a fairly decent benefit to anyone who comes here looking for some information. I've got some reorganization ideas to go along with the new software that should clean things up even more.

So stay tuned over the next few months while the remodeling behind the scenes moves along... and hopefully, makes what you see a more valuable place for you to visit!

What's a Motorcycle Blogger to do... When the Words Fail Him?

For the past couple of weeks, I've stumbled around, chasing my tail, trying to find some inspiration to form the frame on which I could hang a fresh post. It's been a bit of a frustration... I'm not a guy who is generally at a loss for words. So it's an affliction I'm not familiar, or comfortable, dealing with.

Being the writer of two websites, three blogs and recently, one genuine western fiction novel :o), I feel a responsibility to produce something of value to compensate the readers who have yielded time from their lives... to read the scribblings of my meager publishing effort.

I started to notice that the affliction seemed to be contagious. Most of the Motorcycle blogs I read regularly, haven't been posted to for weeks... some of them, months...

I wondered... why?

If they were all from bikers up north, that could be an answer... Not much riding goin' on of Motorcycles up in the North Country... Not in December and January...

Back in Colorado... I rode all winter... one of the few. When it was 15 degrees, even 10! if the road was clear... I was on the bike... more than once, I was already out on the road when it started snowing... and road on home, encrusted in that white junk...

I commonly say; "Take away my motorcycle and you might just as well shoot me in the head... I'm not gonna be of any use."

But... most of the blogs I'm talking about are written by riders in Southern California, Arizona... and other places... where I can't truly believe, that weather... is any sort of an excuse... Winter stored bikes can't be the reason...

So what gives? Is there some great emotional depression goin' on that I'm unaware of?

Parked for much of the winter down on the Arizona Desert, I've been riding... I see lots of other bikes on the road...so they're moving...

I'm sure you've heard some motorcycle riders say something to the affect of; "My bike doesn't have much shiny chrome... I spend my time riding... Not... Polishing." :o)

Maybe, the failure to produce blog postings is because they're riding... and not writing?

I can only hope.
